The Unscripted Carer –15th December 2007
I found out some very interesting news today – apparently carer’s are entitled to Direct Payments in their own right. If this is true, and it appears so from the official Government web site, then it would make an enormous difference to the two of us. We are currently isolated from my mum in Leeds, as I cannot leave Nicola alone for 14-16 hours. However, I could use Direct Payments to fund a sitter a few times a year to visit her. Apparently the money could be used imaginatively, say to pay for broadband connectivity and a home computer to combat the isolation that we all feel at times. There are rumours that there are no strings attached – but only time will tell how this will unfold. However, I am keeping my fingers crossed!
Nicola is still on the “chocolate teapot” list, but is getting a bit better. She has booked in for some cortisone injections just after Christmas, but cannot yet book the follow up treatment, as the booking system needs to be extended into next year.
I am leaving you with a little puzzle – can you work out what this is? (It was taken on a Russian camera older than “she who must be obeyed”):
Clue 1 – note there is no digital jiggery pokery.
More clues in the next blog – middle of next week I hope (Nicola permitting!)
Bye for now
Graham
