Carer Forums
Carer Forums
In the last few years, carers have received a higher profile on the Government's agenda. The Government wants to recognise the unpaid work of carers and ensure that services are designed and delivered with the input of carers.
From February 2007 Carers will have a new opportunity to have their say about the things that matter to them. Guideposts has facilitated the establishment of three local Carer Forums - one in North Warwickshire, one in Nuneaton and Bedworth and one in Rugby.
The Forums will give carers in these three areas an opportunity to discuss the issues that face carers locally and input into the design and provision of local services. The input from carers locally will feedback into the local partnership board which represents the interests of carers in Warwickshire.
Extra sitting and paid expenses are available to carers wishing to take part in the Forums.
The objectives of the Forums are:
- Represent the interests of carers to ensure that their voice is heard in the design and provision of health and social services
-
Promote carer issues and the rights of carers to the general public.
-
Work with other Carer Forums, Partner organisations and Networks to further the interests of carers
-
Ensure that the Carer Support Organisation is carer centred in its approach and in the provision of carer support.
-
Ensure that local health, social and housing services are provided taking into account the carer’s point of view.
How the Forums are organised:
- Each Forum has a minimum of 6 members
- The Members will meet regularly by agreement – approximately 6 meetings per year.
- Each meeting lasts about 2 hours
- Members choose a Chair and Deputy Chair
- Agenda are set with agreement of the Chair
- Each Forum is supported with administration, guidance and advice by the Carer Support Organisation
If you are interested in attending Forum Meetings or would like to know more, please contact Chris Grimley, Carer Support Service Deputy Manager on 02476 385888. Extra sitting and paid expenses are available to carers wishing to take part in the Forums.
